Competition celebrates Tahmoor support for Feathered Friends

19 September 2023

As a member of the Wollondilly community for more than 40 years, SIMEC Mining Tahmoor Coking Coal has again shown its support for important local initiatives after partnering with the Feathered Friends Bird Sanctuary.

I NEED A NAME: Our Masked Owl

SIMEC has long been a supporter of the neighbouring Australian Wildlife Sanctuary and has now also tipped in a grant of $71,000 to its newest nature-based neighbours at the sanctuary.

We’re a proud member of the local community and this grant is another way we can support important causes in our local region

Tahmoor Coking Coal Executive General Manager Peter Vale

Tahmoor Coking Coal Executive General Manager Peter Vale said SIMEC was excited to be partnering with Feathered Friends Bird Sanctuary as it completes its relocation to Bargo beside the Australian Wildlife Sanctuary.

“We’re assisting Feathered Friends with a significant community grant of $71,000 to build two bird enclosures for threatened and endangered birds including the owl conservation breeding program,” Peter said.

“We’re a proud member of the local community and this grant is another way we can support important causes in our local region.”

To help promote the Tahmoor Coking Coal involvement, it is launching a competition in the community and local schools to name the 10-week-old female Masked Owl, who is a new addition at Feathered Friends.

Everyone is welcome to enter the competition to find a name for the owlet with a great prize up for grabs including:

  • a Feathered Friends VIP behind the scenes experience & meet the owl you named
  • 4 tickets to Owloween at the Australian Wildlife Sanctuary
  • a fantastic owl gift pack.

The competition closes on Saturday 30 September 2023.
