Tahmoor fitter a new promotional face for global company

20 February 2024

Tahmoor’s Abbey Ulrich is one of the new faces of a leading industry safety equipment company.

An underground fitter by trade, as well as being a valued member of the Tahmoor Coking Coal Rescue Team, Abbey has worked at Tahmoor for three years after being introduced to the mining industry through a cadetship at the Southern Mines Rescue Station.

She was recently approached by industry safety equipment supplier Dräger to be an ambassador for the brand and now appears in underground mine rescue promotions on the company’s website.

I want it to promote to other young girls and women that they’re capable and can do that [mine rescue] but I also just want it to be an even playing field and recognise that everyone can get into the industry and gain opportunities off their own merit.

Tahmoor Coking Coal has used Dräger equipment at its operation for over 11 years.

“My cadetship at the Southern Mines Rescue Station gave me the opportunity to understand the importance of safety in mining and to become familiar with this sort of equipment,” Abbey said.

Abbey said she was initially hesitant to be in the limelight but is now appreciative of the opportunity and what it means for the mining industry.

“I want it to promote to other young girls and women that they’re capable and can do that [mine rescue] but I also just want it to be an even playing field and recognise that everyone can get into the industry and gain opportunities off their own merit,” Abbey said.

“We have confidence in the equipment we use, so I’m more than happy to appear in their promotions especially if it means this equipment is more widely used and more people are kept safe.”

Abbey was a fantastic participant during the photoshoot as all the team members were.
I’m surprised that Abbey commented that she was initially hesitant to participate as she was enthusiastic and engaged from the get-go!
