Tahmoor Coking Coal has hosted a World’s Great Shave Event, raising over $5000, by donating $50 to the Leukemia Foundation for every head shaved or hair sprayed.
The event, held in three sessions over Thursday and Friday (14th and 15th of March) invited all Tahmoor employees, from both underground and on surface, to participate in the fundraiser.
An inspiring 88 employees were brave and shaved or sprayed, raising $4900 for the Leukemia Foundation.
Additional donations raised the impressive total amount to $5106, which surpassed Tahmoor’s goal of $3500.
One long-locked employee, WHS Coordinator Thomas Hull, raised an additional $4146 for the Chris O’Brian Lifehouse in honour of his father whom the Foundation supported through his cancer diagnoses.
“I have always wanted to do something for the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to give back, so raising $4146 by shaving my head, is the least could do,” Thomas said.
Tahmoor Coking Coal donated and extra $250 to the Leukemia Foundation for Thomas’ brave shave. WHS Manager, Phil Jones, who sported a colourful mohawk to his meetings Thursday and Friday after participating in the Thursday morning session was rapt to be involved.
“I got a couple odd looks and questions but at the end of the day it’s for a good cause and hair grows back, so why not?” Phil said.
“My daughters actually made me keep the mohawk for their sports competition on Sunday.”
Organizers of the Tahmoor Big Shave thanked everyone that participated and donated with hopes for an even better turn out next year.
