Long-running sponsorship for Thirlmere Festival

Tahmoor Coking Coal has sponsored the Steam Huff n Puff Race for the second year in a row to continue its long-running Thirlmere Festival of Steam support.
The recent event challenges members of the local Wollondilly community to compete in a 6.5km race against the well-known Thirlmere Museum steam train while a shorter 3.5km family fun-run was held at the same time.
Executive General Manager of the SIMEC Mining Tahmoor Coking Coal operation, Peter Vale was on hand to sound the horn and signal the start of the popular community fun-run race.
“It was good to see the start of the race, a couple of the kids sprinted off as soon as I blew the starting horn,” Peter said.
“We drove to the finish line and the same kids were still running as fast as they could, and were the first to cross the finish line.”
The competitive race left from Buxton station, with the leading runners beating the steam train back to Thirlmere Station and finishing the 6.5km race in a very quick 21 minutes.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been able to run that fast in my life, it was impressive to see,” Peter said.
“It was a great effort by everyone involved.”
Tahmoor has been a proud sponsor of Thirlmere Festival of Steam for more than 15 years.
“We look forward to seeing the continued growth of this great festival for years to come,” Peter said.
