Sponsorship and stall continues support for annual event

Tahmoor Coking Coal volunteers lit up the streets of Picton for the town’s annual Illuminate Festival.
The Illuminate Festival is a three-day display of art and light put on by Wollondilly Shire Council, similar to Sydney’s Vivid. This year was Tahmoor Coal’s 10th year sponsoring the event. On top of sponsoring the broadcast media for the event, Tahmoor hosts a stall to connect with the local community and display the hard work that goes into Australia’s coal mining industry.
Eager staff volunteered hours of their time on Saturday handing out merchandise such as pens and miner’s cap keychains, running a popular Virtual Reality (VR) coal mine underground experience and talking to curious community members, many of whom have family at the mine.
Amanda Bateman, Tahmoor’s Community Liaison, ran the mine’s stall for the event, ensuring a successful day for everyone.
“The VR underground experience is unique to Tahmoor’s stall, providing a great opportunity for the community to see what it’s like to work underground at Tahmoor mine,” Amanda said
“With the help of our IT team, we showed a Point-Of-View tour of an underground worker going down the winder shaft, then touring through our underground site, visiting the longwall face and diesel workshop.”
Environment and Community Manager, Zina Ainsworth said community members of all ages enjoyed the unique experience Tahmoor had to offer, with many children commenting that it was the best thing about the whole festival.
“Our sponsorship and attendance to community events is something we continue to dedicate our efforts towards,” Zina said.
“We look forward to our ongoing sponsorship of the Illuminate Festival, the biggest event in Wollondilly each year.
“Thank you to all the volunteers involved in making it a successful day.”
